New to photography and wildlife?

It can be frustrating searching for wildlife to photograph, and often difficult getting close enough to get frame-filling shots, especially of our small birds. Why not spend a day getting help and advice on all of the crucial elements of photography whilst having the birds only a couple of metres from your lens?

We’ll break down camera settings for you so that you will be able to easily achieve lovely, professional looking images.

We’ll help make wildlife photography easy!

What you’ll need to bring

  • A suitable camera - ideally a DSLR or mirrorless camera

  • A prime or zoom lens - 400 to 600mm works best. If you have a cropped sensor a shorter focal length will also work

  • Memory cards and batteries

  • Some food

  • A passion for wildlife and photography

What we’ll cover on the day

We’ll cover the camera stuff: shutter speed, aperture, ISO and the all-important histogram. We will also discuss depth of field and composition and how you use all of these aspects of photography to create pleasing images. And the best part is that this can all be done with live subjects!

We will talk about the most important ingredient for a good picture: light. You will be able to observe the light as it moves around the set-up during the day, affecting the subjects and backgrounds in different ways and we will discuss how you can use it to make more impactful images.

We will experiment with different perches, different backgrounds and help you come away with a variety of images that you would be proud to put on a calendar or hang on the wall!
